Job Title: Inbound Project Cargo Operations Manager

Client Description

The organization is a global leader in international project freight forwarding and complex turnkey industrial logistics. They specialize in heavy-lift transport, breakbulk, and end-to-end multimodal project cargo movements for tier-one energy, LNG, and infrastructure developments in demanding environments.

Scope

• Location: Papua New Guinea (preferably resident; base to be confirmed).

• Project Scope: Supporting inbound logistics for a major LNG development.

• Hierarchy: Reports directly to the local organizational lead.

• Team Leadership: Direct daily management of 6 to 10 local coordinators.

• Role Purpose: A hands-on operational leadership position (not a desk-based forwarding role) responsible for the end-to-end execution of inbound project freight—from vessel and cargo arrival through terminal/customs release, safe yard handling, and documented handover for onward transit.

Key Responsibilities

• Arrival Tracking & Planning: Plan and monitor incoming shipments of containerized freight, breakbulk, and out-of-gauge (OOG) industrial cargo, maintaining reliable ETAs and real-time cargo visibility.

• Multi-Stakeholder Coordination: Interface with shipping lines, forwarders, customs brokers, terminal operators, trucking partners, yards, and client teams to drive timely cargo release and seamless handover.

• Lifting & Cargo Handling Readiness: Supervise physical cargo handling and coordinate with approved rigging/heavy-lift crews, ensuring load plans, cargo condition, HSE controls, and incident escalation protocols are strictly enforced.

• Field Team Leadership: Direct 6–10 local coordinators, establishing task allocation, daily attendance, response standards, shift rotations, and practical on-the-ground coaching.

• Exception & Demurrage Management: Control operational exceptions, damage reports, missing documentation, port bottlenecks, and urgent requests to minimize demurrage and detention exposure.

• Daily Reporting: Produce concise operational reports covering daily arrivals, clearance statuses, exceptions, dispatch readiness, and action owners.

Qualifications

• Proven hands-on track record in international freight forwarding and inbound project logistics, covering both containerized and breakbulk/OOG cargo.

• Direct operational exposure to ports, terminals, storage yards, and physical cargo-handling interfaces.

• Documented experience managing and mentoring a local operational team under demanding delivery schedules.

• Solid working knowledge of industrial cargo HSE protocols and risk management.

• Desirable Experience:

• Direct working experience in Papua New Guinea, with practical knowledge of local ports, customs clearance processes, and transport provider networks.

• Background within oil & gas, LNG, mining, EPC, or heavy-industrial project supply chains.

• Demonstrated success in mitigating port delays and reducing demurrage/detention costs.

• Core Competencies: Strong written and spoken English, decisive leadership, practical problem-solving under pressure, and resident readiness for PNG operations.
