Wharf Construction Supervisor (PNG Nationals)
Proven supervisor with 8+ years in heavy civil and marine construction, ready to lead as 2IC to deliver complex wharf projects, manage teams, and drive remote site safety.

1. Client Description
The client is an international technical staffing and workforce solutions partner supporting complex industrial and infrastructure developments across remote, regulated environments.
2. Scope
This position serves as the second-in-command (2IC) to the Wharf Construction Superintendent on a 12-month fixed-term basis. The role provides direct, day-to-day supervision of construction crews, foremen, and plant operators while coordinating the interface between landside and marine civil construction activities.
Designed as a high-value capability-development position, the incumbent will progressively assume greater site operational responsibility, facilitating the smooth transition of marine infrastructure from construction to long-term operations.
3. Key Responsibilities
Construction Supervision & Field Execution: Supervise daily and nightly wharf construction, coordinate work crews and subcontractors, monitor progress against schedule baselines, ensure adequate resourcing, and manage marine/landside site interfaces.
Marine Civil & Structural Delivery: Assist with the construction of wharf deck structures, heavy reinforced concrete, capping beams, fender systems, bollard installation, utilities, drainage, access roads, and concrete hardstands.
Safety, Quality Assurance & Planning: Enforce site safety standards through pre-start inspections, risk assessments, and SWMS compliance; verify drawings, witnessed hold points, and Inspection Test Plans (ITPs); and support weekly schedule reviews and material forecasting.
Contractor & Fleet Oversight: Direct subcontractor field operations, coordinate heavy plant and equipment, review daily work plans, monitor productivity, and resolve site challenges promptly.
Leadership & Capability Building: Provide operational direction to foremen, supervisors, and labor teams while actively coaching local personnel to foster long-term technical leadership.
4. Qualifications And Experiences
Education: Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or an equivalent technical qualification.
Experience Level: Minimum of 8 years in heavy civil construction with at least 5 years in a supervisory role managing large, multidisciplinary crews.
Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience in heavy reinforced concrete, marine structures, wharf/bridge construction, structural concrete, earthworks, drainage, utilities, and heavy lifting operations. Desirable exposure to ports, jetties, LNG, mining, or industrial projects in remote site environments.
Core Competencies: Proficient in reading engineering drawings, construction sequencing, formwork/concrete placement, QA/QC inspections, survey coordination, and daily progress reporting.
Special Requirements: Current driver's licence, medical fitness for remote site work, ability to secure site clearances, and willingness to work a site roster.
