Position : Mechanical Superintendent
Location: Papua New Guinea
Duration: 6 - 9 months then transition into a Permanent, Full-Time role.

2. Scope

We are seeking a highly proficient Mechanical Superintendent for a unique, high-impact career path. The position begins as a Temporary Assignment for 6 to 9 months, with a seamless transition into a Permanent, Full-Time role.

Based between the Port Moresby office and Kido operations in Papua New Guinea, you will serve as the senior mechanical authority. You will oversee the mechanical engineering function across the entire lifecycle—encompassing design, construction, commissioning, and long-term operations—to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective plant systems.

3. Key Responsibilities

• Mechanical Engineering Design & Assurance: Lead the development and review of plant design criteria, PFDs, P&IDs, layouts, and equipment sizing. Act as the ultimate technical authority to ensure designs are safe, compliant, and properly integrated across disciplines.

• Operations, Reliability & Performance: Analyze plant data to optimize throughput, availability, and energy efficiency. Direct troubleshooting, root cause analysis (RCA), and asset criticality strategies to minimize plant failures.

• Commissioning & Handover: Lead the mechanical input for commissioning, plant start-ups, performance testing, ramp-ups, and operational handovers.

• Project Management: Manage assigned capital expenditure (CapEx) and plant modification projects from definition through procurement, construction, and closeout.

• Leadership & Stakeholder Management: Provide visible leadership to engineers, technicians, and contractors, while serving as the principal mechanical interface with the broader engineering and leadership teams.

4. Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (CPEng or membership in a professional body like IEPNG is highly desirable).

• Experience: Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in heavy industry (e.g., lime, cement, mining, or related process industries), including at least 3 years in a senior, lead, or supervisory capacity.

• Technical Mastery: Proven capability in heavy industrial plant design (layouts, process flows, technical specs) and strong maintenance/reliability engineering acumen.

• Project Delivery: Demonstrated success managing project scopes, schedules, budgets, and contractor performance.

• Autonomy & Leadership: A clear track record of directing multidisciplinary teams, building local capability, and executing priorities autonomously with minimal supervision.

• Flexibility: Ability to travel between office and site, with the flexibility to support out-of-hours work during critical commissioning or shutdown phases.
