Contracts Manager
Job Overview
The Contracts Manager is responsible for leading the preparation of accurate cost estimates, contract evaluations, and tender submissions for timber, plywood, and prefabricated building projects. This senior role ensures financial accuracy, compliance with contract terms, and competitive pricing strategies.
The Estimator provides expert guidance to junior estimators and act as a key advisor to management on project feasibility and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
Contract review, negotiation, and administration
Tender and bid support
Variation, claims, and extension of time management
Commercial risk assessment and mitigation
Progress payment and cash flow management
Subcontractor and supplier contract management
Procurement and supply chain commercial oversight
Dispute avoidance and resolution
Contract compliance and governance
Commercial reporting to senior management
Key challenges:
Accuracy: Ensuring estimates and contracts reflects actual costs and risks
Time Pressure: Meeting strict deadlines for tenders and contracts submissions.
Coordination: Aligning estimation with procurement, logistics, and design teams.
Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating contract risks.
Customer Expectation: Delivering competitive and transparent quotations.
Requirements:
Extensive experience in construction, timber, sheet detailing or prefabricated building estimation.
Strong knowledge of contract law, tendering, and project management.
Advanced mathematical and analytical skills.
Ability to interpret complex technical drawings and specifications.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior senior- level experience in the Papua New Guinea timber- steel/ construction industry
Training in quantity surveying, construction management, or contract administration
Familiarity with computerized estimation and project management systems
Knowledge of prefabricated housing kits and international logistics.
