Building Superintendent (International Applicants)
1. Client Description
The organization is a leading international infrastructure and industrial contractor executing high-profile energy, resource, and heavy civil construction developments globally. They specialize in managing large-scale project execution frameworks, driving strict on-site productivity, and maintaining high safety, design, and quality standards on complex greenfield industrial sites.
2. Scope
Project Type: A major greenfield industrial construction project.
Location: Site-based in Papua New Guinea.
Hierarchy: Reports directly to the Construction Manager.
Primary Mandate: Responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely delivery of industrial buildings and associated infrastructure works, managing the lifecycle from structural erection through to final handover.
Target Pool: Western Expatriate or strong Other Country National (OCN) candidate.
3. Key Responsibilities
Building Construction Supervision: Oversee the day-to-day construction of warehouses, workshops, maintenance facilities, administration complexes, and steel-framed structures.
Contractor & Multi-Trade Coordination: Direct subcontractors executing structural steel erection, cladding, roofing, concrete placement, interior architectural fit-outs, and external civil works.
Interface Management: Coordinate spatial and schedule interfaces between the building works and concurrent civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and commissioning teams.
Productivity & Performance Monitoring: Drive construction productivity, manage schedule milestone achievements, and monitor contractor manpower and heavy equipment allocation.
HSE Leadership: Promote a strict safety culture across all active building fronts and ensure full compliance with project HSE regulations.
Quality & Handover: Oversee field quality inspections, generate and track punch lists, manage defect rectification, and coordinate formal facility handover activities.
4. Qualifications
Education: Hold a Trade qualification, Technical Diploma, or a full University Degree in Construction, Civil Engineering, Building, or a related discipline.
Essential Experience:
Minimum of 10 years of experience in industrial, commercial, mining, energy, or large-scale infrastructure construction projects.
Proven track record supervising the execution of large steel-framed industrial buildings, workshops, and support infrastructure.
Extensive experience managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary workforces within remote, challenging project environments.
Technical Skills: Deep expertise in structural steel erection methodologies, cladding, concrete structures, and interpreting complex architectural and engineering blueprints.
Personal Attributes: Strong field leadership, a proactive approach to site-based problem solving, and a results-oriented focus on schedule, quality, and subcontractor productivity.
