Wharf Construction Superintendent (International Applicants)
1. Client Description
The organization is a leading international infrastructure and industrial contractor executing high-profile energy, resource, and heavy civil construction developments globally. They specialize in managing large-scale project execution frameworks, driving strict on-site productivity, and maintaining high safety, design, and quality standards on complex greenfield industrial sites.
2. Scope
Project Type: A major greenfield industrial and marine infrastructure project.
Location: Site-based in Papua New Guinea.
Hierarchy: Reports directly to the Construction Manager.
Primary Mandate: Responsible for driving the accelerated execution of wharf structures, marine utilities, and final topside outfitting, ensuring seamless integration with existing piling activities.
Target Pool: Western Expatriate or strong Other Country National (OCN) candidate.
3. Key Responsibilities
Wharf Topside Construction: Oversee the day-to-day execution of heavy structural marine concrete works, focusing on the precise formwork, reinforcement, and pouring of massive capping beams.
Marine Outfitting & Installation: Direct the technical installation and anchoring of heavy-duty marine fenders, bollards, and associated mooring equipment according to strict engineering tolerances.
Utilities Integration: Supervise the routing and installation of marine utilities, including piping, electrical conduits, and fuel/water lines across the wharf structure.
Schedule Acceleration: Actively manage construction sequencing and resource allocation to accelerate remaining works and meet tight project milestones.
Interface Coordination: Partner closely with fully manned piling crews to manage the transition from substructure piling to topside concrete and utility installation.
HSE & Quality Governance: Enforce strict marine-based HSE protocols, working-over-water safety measures, and rigorous quality controls for marine-grade concrete and corrosion protection.
4. Qualifications
Education: Hold a Marine/Civil Engineering Degree, Technical Diploma, or a relevant structural trade qualification.
Essential Experience:
Minimum of 10 to 15 years of experience in heavy civil construction, with a strong focus on marine infrastructure, ports, or wharf construction.
Proven track record supervising heavy structural concrete, capping beams, and marine outfitting installation.
Demonstrated success in driving schedule recovery or acceleration programs on large-scale infrastructure projects.
Extensive experience managing subcontractors and multi-ethnic workforces in remote or island environments.
Technical Skills: Deep understanding of marine concrete curing techniques, heavy lifting/crane rigging over water, and the integration of utilities within marine structures.
Personal Attributes: High-energy field leader with an aggressive focus on productivity and schedule achievement, paired with excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
