Maintenance Manager

Our client in Australia is a specialist provider of Environmental and Geotechnical and Sonic drilling services to leading consulting firms. Our clients are a diverse range of commercial, industrial and infrastructure projects.

The Opportunity
We are seeking a Maintenance Manager who will lead from the front — an experienced Plant Fitter, Mechanic or Hydraulic specialist ready to step into management and deliver real impact.

Primarily an office-based role, you take full ownership of our maintenance function, overseeing drilling rigs, plant and equipment, heavy vehicles and road vehicles. You will ensure compliance, reliability and peak performance across Sydney, Brisbane and a wide geographic area of remote operations.

This is the role for the person who leads decisively, holds people accountable to high standards, and is genuinely excited to take on challenging technical and operational tasks — and win. You will build systems, drive continuous improvement and make sure our equipment is ready so our drilling crews succeed on every project.

You will lead our drilling fitters and mechanics in Sydney and Brisbane while coordinating remote maintenance and field support. This is a leadership role for someone who thrives on structure, accountability and turning technical expertise into operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the maintenance, servicing, repair and compliance of road-registered vehicles, plant and drilling equipment.

• Plan and coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance schedules to minimise downtime and maximise reliability.

• Lead, mentor, develop and hold accountable workshop staff, apprentices and contracted technicians.

• Ensure equipment readiness for projects across metro, regional and remote locations.

• Develop and implement maintenance procedures, reporting systems and inventory controls.

• Coordinate closely with operations and drilling teams to support project delivery and operational success.

Essential Requirements

• Trade qualification in a relevant field (Plant Mechanic, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, Hydraulic Fitter or similar)

• High-level hydraulic system experience is essential

• Advanced troubleshooting capability in hydraulic systems is required

• Proven experience managing maintenance teams and operations

• Minimum 3-5 years of maintenance management experience is required

• Strong knowledge of road vehicle compliance, plant and heavy equipment

• Experience with remote maintenance coordination and logistics

• Familiarity with drilling equipment preferred

• High-level communication and leadership skills

• Competent with maintenance software systems and digital reporting tools

• Able to pass a medical and police clearance

• Full Australian work rights are required for this position
