Purpose of the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Heavy Equipment Fitter to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that all machinery and heavy equipment are maintained, repaired, and operating safely and efficiently to support continuous, high-volume operations.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance: Perform diagnostics, routine preventative maintenance, and complex repairs across all hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
Breakdown Response: Troubleshoot faults rapidly and execute breakdown repairs under high operational pressure to minimize equipment downtime.
Specialized Fleet Service: Service and maintain a diverse fleet including small, medium, and heavy forklifts, diesel equipment, and specialized container-handling machinery.
Technical Compliance: Interpret and utilize OEM manuals, service schedules, and parts identification systems to ensure repairs meet manufacturer standards.
Documentation: Maintain accurate, up-to-date job records, including job cards, work orders, and comprehensive service reports.
Safety & Standards: Maintain exceptionally high workshop standards, housekeeping practices, and strict adherence to equipment reliability protocols.
Site Support: Work independently and collaboratively across multiple site locations. Be prepared to support remote site operations and outer ports (e.g., Lae, Rabaul, etc.) as operational demands require.
Requirements & Qualifications
Trade Certification: Formal trade qualification in Heavy Equipment Fitting, Diesel Mechanics, or an equivalent certified trade qualification.
Port Equipment Experience: Proven, hands-on experience working with 45-ton Reach Stackers, container handlers, and associated port machinery.
Industry Background: Strong experience working within port, logistics, or heavy industrial environments—specifically container yard and terminal operations.
Safety First Mindset: A strong focus on safety compliance, risk assessments, and a dedicated adherence to safe work practices.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively liaise with workshop supervisors and broader operations teams.
Flexibility: Willingness to travel to remote/multi-site environments, work night shifts, extended hours, and handle on-call responsibilities.
